  6. @Camel:

Holy smokes, a new Blanc Faces?!?
This should be awesome, also going by the review. Grabbing now.

For the benefit of this virtual AOR illiterate when it comes to recent releases, might i inquire after your album top 10 of this year so far?

(Your top 10 of last year would be quite useful too.)

    ReplyDelete
  7. @Gurol:

This is the best sounding version of these demos i've got (cleaned up sound).
The downside being that most songs are a few seconds shorter than they were meant to be and 'Hero Of My Heart' still has the repeated intro, though as far as i've heard the latter applies to every version out there.

    Download

(First time in a long time i've actually managed to put something up on MegaUpload without my upload being aborted like the unwanted spawn of a careless mother to be.)

BLANC FACES - Falling From The Moon
    SUNSTORM - House Of Dreams
    J. ELEFANTE & MASTEDON - Revolution Of Mind (aka MASTEDON 3)
HOUSE OF LORDS - Cartesian Dreams
BAD HABIT - Above And Beyond
    DANGER DANGER - Revolve
    FARCRY - High Gear
THE POODLES - Clash Of The Elements
    FIRENOTE - Firenote
HIGHEST DREAM - Far Away From Here

    @ homer:
Pleasantly surprised by "Blue Rose - ST (1983)". HQ music. Recommended!
Love this style, absolutely Parsonsesque, reminds me PANARAMA too.
Do you know similar albums like this one?
Thanx a ton for "Tyron - Into The Night +1"
We've got the best here folks, hats off master!

Bret is from India, usually much more polite people than us.
As you could imagine, it's almost impossible to him find anything, only as import. Thanx to the digital era, barricades falls down.
Help him as much you can, a true AOR fan.

on purpose of JaR (Graydon - Goodrum) project, Caryl Mack Parker did vocals in this one, there's where the ringing bells came from...

  31. Hi friends, has somebody this single?:
Frankie Miller - Blue Skies Forever

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Camelblue:

Wow, it's pathetic how few need to own titles i've got out of the ones you mentioned. :o(

Only ones i have on actual CD are Work Of Art, Arrival/Mark Free, Frozen Rain and Places Of Power.
But that's because i can't afford to buy music anymore. Unlike Mark Knopfler, i've been in dire straits financially for quite some time now thanks to the IRS bleeding me dry.

The ones i don't even have as downloads:

    Alliance - Road To Heaven
H.E.A.T - H.E.A.T (was convinced i had it, but seems to have gone MIA)
    Marcello / Vestry
Peter Friestedt - The L.A. Project II
David Roberts - Better Late Than Never
    Indigo - Reach Out
    JaR (Graydon - Goodrum) - Scene 29
    Joseph Williams - This Fall

HOUSE OF LORDS - Cartesian Dreams
    DANGER DANGER - Revolve
    FIRENOTE - Firenote

Think you could upload some of them or provide links to where i can find 'em???

    PS:
Nope, can't go wrong with Robert Berry.
The Poodles on the other hand i can do without. Don't like anything i've heard from them so far. Lousy band name too.

Agree with the APP comparison for Blue Rose. Keats comes to mind as well obviously. And The Kite. Good stuff, not the usual fare. But what's with the crackling during track 3? Is that supposed to be artsy?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey folks,
does anyone have "Crystal Eye" by John Parr?

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Camelblue, i see you like Robert Berry. 2 cd's in your fav 2008 list. here is a special 1. Hush one hot night. From 1983 verry verry rare private release

    http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?cmhimomtijq

    ReplyDelete
  35. ha ha, never mind about that last matter. :) I assumed it was a CD, not a vinyl album.

    @Bret:
So, are you an AOR/pomp/melodic rock novice or what?
I was thinking of listing a number of titles no fan of the genre can do without, but that wouldn't be much help if you're pretty much up to speed already.

(Yep, Indians are polite to a fault. That's why they're the ideal call centre customer service employees and telemarketers.)

    ReplyDelete
  36. @ troy:
Not exactly all 'need to own' titles listed. Just my picks.
Agree with The Poodles, I don't like their 1st at all, but the 2nd is pretty good, much much better.

  42. Efharisto, Soofster (pseudo English/pseudo Dutch term of endearment).
Danger Danger and House Of Lords are off my to do list.

Minus the ones in the e-mail i just received from the world's fastest request filler (muchas muchas muchas gracias, but not gonna return the hugs cause real men don't do that sort of thing) leaves only Alliance, H.E.A.T., Marcello/Vestry and Firenote.

(Plus some older wants that thus far have remained unfilled: Ziggurat - 'Melodic Scandal': Best Of and Steve Brockmann - 'Expected Errors'.)

So, is there a Peter Friestedt - 'LA Project I'? There must be and it's probably good, or they wouldn't have made a sequel.
I'm sure besides me a few people on here would be interested in hearing it, and perhaps that Panarama one you brought up as well.

I'll try that 'Crystal Eye' tune too, but if it blows chunks as much as 'Walking Out Of The Darkness' (if i'd been a Doncaster Rovers supporter, i would have instantly converted to coming down the road with the rest of the Tartan Army boys) John Parr no longer qualifies as a favorite of mine. I've adopted a three strikes you're out policy from an orphanage in Malawi and i didn't have to bribe any government officials to get preferential treatment either.

"Are you talking about this album?:

I may very well be, yes. Ever heard it? Or better yet, do you own it?

I can do the pasting thing if you want. Just don't expect any big surprises.
I'm only listing some (pre-2005) titles that would help a relative newbie to the genre catch up a little. Those i enjoyed over the years. Stuff that educated me.
It'll probably bore the seasoned veteran's socks off.

knows, the name Janne (swedish) is it female or male? I think it's female but I'm not sure. Need confirmation on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  118. @Sofia:

For chrisakes, learn to use Wikipedia!!

"Janne is a common name in the Nordic countries. In Finland it is a name for males, but in Denmark, Norway and Estonia it's a name for females. The usage within Sweden is male, but besides the Finnish speaking Swedes the name is used as a nickname for people called Jan, Jan-Erik, Jan-Olov etc.

The name belongs to the family with its origin in Johannes, or in English John."

  133. @Bret Hart:

There is no such thing as 'melodic death rock'.
The A in AOR stands for 'Adult'.
Allowing for immature subgenres would be a contradiction in terms.

    ReplyDelete
  134. @Troy
Actually opinions vary in this matter. Others say that A stands for Arena, which I personally prefer.

    ReplyDelete
  135. thank you troy for the jeff cosco cd!

    ReplyDelete
  136. @Sofia:

I've always considered Arena Rock a subgenre of Melodic Rock.
The loudest bands playing in front of the biggest crowds.

Which hardly applies to all AOR bands and artists.
It can just as easily be an intimate affair. Think Light AOR and some westcoast for instance.
Lite-Arena (Oriented?) Rock makes very little sense.

  183. @troynew: there is a free program called Free Rapid that can help you, to make it easier to download from ifolder, and other sites also... try this:
    http://wordrider.net/freerapid/

You just need to paste the ifolder link, then you'll be asked to enter the captcha number, that's the only thing you need to do.... the program will handle the rest :)

  185. @ SOFIA:
    - Your direct links to ifolder were unique passkeys, only works once generated (in short:useless) Thanks for your time.
    - Frédéric Slama's L.A RENDEZ-VOUS (1992) & SECRET OBSESSION (1984) are demos only, impossible to trace down... anyone?
    - I didn't posted AOR - Journey To L.A. ...
Only the promo is floating around, got this one and sounds pretty decent:

Thanx King for the links. A killer machine man...

    @ adrian666:
Free Rapid is cool, but nothing can beat JDownloader:
    http://www.jdownloader.org/home?lng=en
Free, clean, light, fast, no captcha needed.
Just drop your links (more than 80 hosts allowed, including russian) and voilà !
Highly Recommended prog, I use it all the time.

  190. A request from me. I just watched this video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4XdJsjtx8U ...wow, what a groove! Total westcoast heaven IMO. I have to hear the entire album! Does anybody have Toshiki Kadomatsu's "Sea Is A Lady" (1985)?? Thanks for the help.

  191. @ adrian666:
Kadomatsu's 'Sea Is A Lady' (1987) is a little masterpiece.
Gonna post this rarity for you, please wait a few days, busy week...
    Meanwhile, don't miss this one:

I dunno, i think this one might get turned away at the Pearly Gates for being a mere instructional video on how to carry out a proper drive-by shooting sponsored by the Miami Tourism Board.
A very cool instrumental tune nonetheless. I wouldn't mind either hearing the rest of the album.

    @Tony:

I'll just stick with 'Homer be Thy name, we're not worthy' if it's all the same to you.

    @Badjunkie:

I'm gonna save Pete the trouble and upload Bernie LaBarge to trya and make myself useful. Strawberry flavored and ripped for your pleasure. ;P

PS: Either my browser or Google tells me visiting aor-fm.com may be harmful to my computer!?! I wonder who's been feeding it this load of hogwash.

Alrighty, i'm calling it quits compiling my recommendations list because i keep thinking of albums i should add and at this rate i'll never finish.

Just submitted it on TinyPaste, so go check it out if you've got nothing better to do with your valuable time.

    http://tinypaste.com/019bd3a

(All done by heart... I didn't consult any website, the mp3 files on my computer or even the database of my own collection, so i probably forgot plenty.

Also, with a few exceptions i didn't include any post 2004 releases, no straight forward hard rock/metal, prog (metal) or sympho and no Retrospect type output of previously unreleased material, or the list would have gone on forever like Eloy's returning tides.)
    Nuff said.

    PS:
Never bothered to listen to Dare's 'Blood From Stone' (no kidding!) because of the bad press when it was first released, but as nowadays it seems to be rated much more favorably and having just read some positive reviews i'm getting kinda curious.
Would appreciate it if someone could upload it.
