Okay, here's a very rare one, I doubt many people have heard of.

Guns of Fire were an Australian AOR/Hard Rock band who to my knowledge had just two releases. The first of these being a 1991 live album entitled 'Viva The Revolution' and this one, a 1993 EP entitled '2BWITHU'. I am also led to believe they were a Christian band but this is not heavily reflected upon in their lyrics.

Guns of Fire - 2BWITHU (EP)

My own CD rip at 320kbps + full artwork & lyrics

The track 'Born For Love' is excellent!

I also have their 1991 live album which I will upload at a later date.

Enjoy this one.

JC_AOR said...

And here's another rare one.

Falcons are a band from Canada (Ontario I think?) that play some pretty nice keyboard flavored AOR/Melodic Rock. Pretty lite/relaxed stuff actually so it won't be for everyone but I do really enjoy this album.

This album 'Dangerous Life' contains 11 tracks and was released in 1994.

Falcons - Dangerous Life
My own CD rip at 320kbps + full artwork & lyrics

I would love to know more about this band and if they had any other releases.

Yeah, it was part of my Shotgun Request Pack 2 on EOTW.
But getting credit and a token will get you a ride on the subway, so no matter.

I'm kinda hoping though that when Kristina Nichols' The Storm hits the market, i do get an honorable mention of some sort since that CD release would never have become a reality without me.
Besides, i badly need a boost to my fragile ego. ;oP

SOFIA said...

@Turkaor
It's a pitty you don't trust them cause russian sites - blogs - download services are the most trustworthy if you want to find rare stuff
and they rarely go out of date or their links end up deleted too cause american laws doesn't seem to touch them, if you know what I mean.
But it's ok, I can upload it for you if you're patient until tomorrow, except someone else beats me to it.

troynew said...

@Peter:

No need to wait until tomorrow.
I'll do two 320 kbps rips for you right now.
Watch this space.

PS: I don't trust Russian sites either, or anything Russian for that matter with the possible exception of McKagan. ;o)

troynew said...

@Peter:

Here they are (like i said, these are my own rips @320). Don't spend them all in one place.

Virginia Wolf - Virginia Wolf (1986)

Virginia Wolf - Push (1987)

@Sofia:

"not a word of this is true"

err, yes it is. No fiction involved here.
I only asked you to tone it down on your radio show because getting showered with X's and O's in public is very emasculating. :O(
(Unless the one doing the showering is a total babe of course, like Babraham Lincoln.)

@Plattenpapst;

"So for Sofia, Troy & Camel: I'm sure gonna tell you about this event!"

Sure, go ahead. Cause there's nothing more enjoyable than being told in painstaking detail just what you've missed out on. :P

SOFIA said...

SOFIA said...

@Peter

@Turkaor
Paradise Lost! Whoah! You reminded me back when I was working at the airport and I had met them. Great guys all of them! We had such fun together. Especially when I played them a farce and at the end of it the singer was lying on the floor laughing and very relieved that they weren't really arrested!!! Long story to tell here... :-)

Kuni will be ready in an hour or so. I haven't realized till now that I had to upload almost half a giga! Flac sucks! lol

@All
About 2 weeks ago MerlinsDaughter honored me by letting me play one of her songs (she sings Shania Twain's From this moment) in one of my radio shows.
So for those of you who missed her either cause you haven't heard the show or you just didn't realise she was singing it (although I said it was her at the end of the show) here it is. Her song is at the last half an hour of the show.
Enjoy!

My nickname/online name i did choose myself obviously, my given name/christian name/first name sure as heck wouldn't have been my pick if i had been allowed a choice in the matter.

@MerlinsDaughter:

"You Will Never See Me On Any Country Award Show Except There Is A Category Calling "Who Fits Complete Into A Mousehole"."

Are you saying you're particularly small for your age, or particularly grey and prone to scurry along floorboards in search of remnants of cheese? ;o)

Like Sofia said, you sang that Shania song without a hint of a German accent, which puts you one up on several other German singers i know.

"Didn`t We Want To Talk About The Munich City Nights?"

err, maybe. It consists of so many parts that it might take forever to (attempt to) download all of them, and it'll probably take up way more hard disk space than i've got available.

MerlinsDaughter said...

@ Troynew

I Recognized That It Seems Like You Have Problems With Your Download Speed. You Have My E-Mail Adress From Sofia And If You Had Write Me A Note I`ve Had Told You About Two Alternatives To Get The Munich Sampler! But You Didn`t So I Thought You Only Forget It.

The Munich Serie Vol. 01-82, The Neon Serie 11-20, Plus The Two Black Versions Together Take 8 Gig Hard Disk Space.

troynew said...

My download speed isn't the problem. It's the effort it takes to grab 82 separate file folders considering that there's codes you have to fill in, mandatory waiting for free users etc. before you can download.

Though i gotta say 8 Gigs isn't nearly as much as i thought it would be. Got any links?
PS: The two 'black versions'??? What series do they belong to?

MerlinsDaughter said...

@ Troynew

Munich City Nights - The Black Versions Vol. 1+2.

The Linklist That Camelblue Posted Were Hard To Complete For Me Too.
And Some Of The Links Were Down.

Someone Posted A Blog Were The Complete Serie Is Available On Rapidshare And No Dead Links.
That`s Were I Get The Serie.

But This Is Not What I Mean!
If You Don`t Want To Write Me So I Have Your E-Mail Adress And Can Talk About That In A More Private Way It`s Ok.
The Question Is Do You Want To Have The Munich Serie Or Not, And I Can Help You To Get It.
It`s Your Choice!

There Is No Reason To Be Distrustful! I Think Sofi Is A Wittness For My Good Character! :-)

I Have Checked It Specially For You Troy. All Volumes Together Like I Have It Here On My Harddisk Are A Little Under 8 Gigs.

Like Sofi says, you worry too much about how other folks perceive you.
Never allow your (self)image to be determined by those who surround you, unless you're a politician on the campaign trail.
I'm willing to bet that out of the 655,822 unique visitors to this blogspot you're one of the most well-liked.
Heck, you even get along with me, and i'm about as easy to get along with as a foul-tempered gangster rapper who's just been told by a gay jewelry store employee that he doesn't have a clue how to accessorize. ;oP
Whatever you've been doing up to this point, i would suggest you keep it up.

Oh, and your linguistic skills are freakishly impressive.
If i had been raised in a country where every foreign tv show and movie (watching those plus reading a few American novels is how i learned the language) was dubbed by the same three people and a dachshund named Colin, my command of the English language would have been infinitely worse than yours.

The only minor thing about your posts that i'm not overly fond of is the way you start every word with a capital letter.
But that may just be your keyboard being confused about expressing itself in a lingo where not every noun's initial letter is capitalized like it is in German.

@Sofia:

Kindly also post the mp3 of yesterday's show. I'm curious about the way you manage to improvise another two hour's worth of righteous tunes.

SOFIA said...

@Troy
I have some bad news. They're discussing about stopping my show cause:
1) my internet connection is crummy and I sometimes have line drops (which is a fair cause and completely understandable by me although is something I have warned them about from the start)
and
2) I dared to play 3 songs that as they said "I shouldn't play".
The first one was in greek language (which I played for a joke),
the second one was a song by an artist who is not very likeable in Greece nowdays but who have made an AOR hit back in the 80's (when he was unknown to most greeks) and I thought that people should know about it (a cause that is not understandable by me cause I think people shouldn't wear blinkers, especially in music and should try having an open mind). I think I have posted this one here some time ago and I'm posting it again today just to give you an idea. Here it is:

http://hotfile.com/dl/40714011/421a0a0/02._TAKE_IT_OR_LEAVE_IT_-_TAXI.MP3.html

The third song was a cover of Psycho killer by an 80's greek band named Psycho. They said it was too opera style to broadcast on the radiostation. Here it is:

http://hotfile.com/dl/40713675/08ab8e9/Psycho_-_Psycho_Killer.mp3.html

Also what I find a very weird coincidence (and I have to tell you I don't believe in coincidences) is that my connection yesterday was fine until I played the second not acceptable song. Then suddenly everything collapsed! You'll hear it yourself.
All that happened during the last half an hour of yesterday's show.
The whole show is here:

http://mbf.cc/ei7h

No one has told me anything yet about the final verdict so I'm guessing I'll broadcast today as usual and I will dedicate today's show to all OPEN MINDED people all over the world. May God ALWAYS bless you! lol
Cheers!

SOFIA said...

And for whomever is wondering about the greek song I mentioned before here it is:

http://hotfile.com/dl/40718171/d6f7596/Despoina_Vandi_-_Kapoies_fores.mp3.html

Please note that I don't like this lady much (attitude wise) but I think this song is cool!

And today's show was my last. No, they didn't stop my show. I quit! My internet connection can't pull it off now that the station's bitrate is upgraded. Today I had only 2-4 listeners, due to the line drops, and I can't play music just for myself and 2-4 people lol... So I think quitting was the best thing to do for the show's sake although I'M NOT A QUITTER!
So here it is

Again thank you all for your support!

@Sofia:

Sorry to hear your career as an amateur DJ was so short-lived.
I for one enjoyed the show when i had the opportunity to listen.

I'm not surprised TPTB were having doubts if you (and no one else) kept experiencing technical difficulties.
It doesn't help BeRock's reputation if they frequently broadcast dead air, i would imagine.
Still, they could at least have offered to try and come up with a fix.

About those three songs you referred to:
I don't get the joke where this Despoina Vandi character is concerned. I thought it was a pretty good heavy rock song actually.
The second one too is quite decent AOR. Makes me wonder why the artist is the subject of such disdain in Greece.
As for that unusual rendition of 'Psycho Killer', i'm gonna have to agree with whoever told you that it was inappropriate. It might be entertaining enough if one is falling down drunk, but it's completely out of place on a melodic rock/AOR station's playlist. I can't begin to guess what possessed you to air it.

This is gonna be a tough one to explain to Romy. I promise her some airplay, and then when she's about to give me permission i have to go back on my word.
There goes my last bit of (street) credibility out the window! :o(

Any chance that you can persuade one of your former colleagues to give her song a spin during one of their shows?
Or are you as popular with them now as a One Legged Man at an Ass Kicking Convention?!?
Aren't they the same guys you collaborate with on that rockway.gr online magazine site?

Thanks either way for those mp3s of your last two shows.

Are they content to play for an audience of a handful or do they have a lot more people tuning in???

The Netherlands alone will contribute 150 euros per capita (i feel another hefty tax increase coming) to help Greece sort out the financial mess it created.
Along with every other EU member nation's aid, this should be more than sufficient for you to buy the Chris Laney and Bronze albums and still have enough left over for a strawberry ice cream.
No need to thank me. Apparently i volunteered. ;oP

SOFIA said...

Whoah! Great news! I really apreciate your country's offer but the part that thrilled me the most is the strawberry ice-cream! I'll finally get to eat that and I love strawberries!!! lol

Trust me sugar you wouldn't want to be a greek, not after Andreas Papandreou died anyway (for those who don't know his son is our prime minister now - he's good but not as good as his father and grandfather was)! Now that was a POLITICIAN for you!!!
So they will lend us the money and we'll probably have a couple of good years. Then what? We'll be in the worst position ever cause our debt will be 300% more than it is now (the percentage is random btw)!

ok, now here's something really rare, it's a band from Belgium called KATE'S DESIRE, I can tell you, nobody has ever heard of them, but in 1995 they recorded 3 of the best female fronted AOR songs ever put on record by a Belgian band, please let me know what you think, the sound is close to HEAT, HEART, WITNESS, LAOS...

No worries, look at the US. Their national debt is astronomical, but that doesn't stop any Yank from living large in the lap of luxury on borrowed money.

AOROCKER said...

hey Sofia, I wrote thousands of reviews during the 1990s, in a time when AOR was avoided by basically anyone in the world, I discovered it and started writing for a magazine in those years and in those pre-internet days it was very hard to discover new acts, but I managed to get hold of a lot of rare material, including a lot of tapes I have never seen uploaded on the internet are in my collection, I will share the best ones if I have the time, as I work on weekdays, so only on sunday I can do some ripping, but if you're ever in Holland (where I live) you're welcome to check my collection!

SOFIA said...

@Troy
I guess you're right. This planet lives on borrowed time all together so why should we worry about our individual petty (compared to its time debt) debts?

troynew said...

@AORocker:

You discovered AOR??? :o0
Well, we all owe you a huge debt of gratitude then.
(Funny how i keep coming back on the subject of huge debts.)

Alrighty, give me your address.
I wanna drop by to take a look at your collection!!

Kate's Desire sound pretty good by the way. Thanks for the upload.
What year were these songs recorded?

SOFIA said...

@AOROCKER
You're so kind! Will do, thanks!

1) Back for more
A decent track but generally a little boring!

2) Day by day
A pretty cool, fun track with an edge! The girl's voice sounds a little out of tune here...

3) Don't let me die young
A very strong ballad with a cool title. I think I liked the chick's voice here more than in the other tracks!

Overall they sound more 80's than 90's.

SOFIA said...

yes i am one of the big 4 you mentioned, although i liked aor music before 1993, i was unaware at all it was called AOR and was also not really busy with discovering new stuff, but around 1993 thanks to a few people I found out about the AOR world (yeah, sounds scary!) and from then on I was hooked for the rest of my life, for me it started with zappacosta, haywire, loverboy, night ranger, survivor, journey, but the turning point was MARK FREE's long way record, the day that record was released i never looked back and wanted to collect everything AOR related, until this very day! how did you guys (and girl!) discover AOR??

Peter said...

@Aorrocker, I discovered AOR in 1983, just turned a teenager then and always liked NWOBHM stuff really, then my older brother came home from college one weekend with a tape his mate gave him, one song changed my music life, the tape Michael Bolton S/T the song Hometown Hero from then I really changed to more AOR stuff.
Good topic this could be.........

I just bought a copy of Brother Brother- Fly Away (1998), haven't seen it uploaded anywhere else (nor for sale often) since the guys never distributed the album. They also released an excellent Christian themed AOR album titled "Young Warriors" in 1993 that has been uploaded in several places. You`re right sometimes I`m losing to much time with imagining what others may think about me.
That is a acquired thing I carry with me since my childhood.
One day I don`t mind and on the other this thoughts could go very bad.

I`m sorry I don`t understand your joke about the gangster rapper and gay jewelry... :-(
But how you can see I did understand your capital letter thing..... ;-)

@ Sofi

I`m really sad that you have to stop your radio shows! I`ve had much fun when you were on air Sofi!

@MerlinsDaughter:

"I`m sorry I don`t understand your joke about the gangster rapper and gay jewelry... :-("

Gangster Rappers like to wear lots of gold chains and other jewelry as a status symbol and fashion statement. They are known for their violent temper and hate being told what to do.
Gay people stereotypically like to tell others how to dress.
So the predictable result of this attempted 'extreme makeover' would be the two of them not getting along to say the least and the jewelry store employee ending up on the receiving end of a major ass-kicking.
It's sort of a culture clash type of thing. That's basically the thought behind this pitiful excuse for a joke. :o)

SOFIA:
Why don't you 'open' your own domestic radio station?
There's a lot software to broadcast your own stuff from your PC to the world, setting your bandwith preferences and picking free servers.
I'm not an expert at all in this matter, but I know people doin' it.
After BRONZ - Carried By The Storm (2010) too.

@ AOROCKER :
Thank you very much for Kate's Desire, good and unknown.
Taken from a demo tape? Officially released? Your reviews (past or present) are welcome.
Keep them coming.

Regarding AOR in my life... way back 'round '83-'84: Journey - Frontiers.
A friend's father got the no so good idea to open a record store here (bankrupt after 6 months) importing tons of vinyls from USA.
Most of them unknown and unreleased albums/bands in my country (that was the idea). Only sold a few ones, but me and my friend enjoyed and discovered wonderful music (Loverboy, Survivor, Foreigner, ELO, etc.). Hooked forever...
I inherited all this collection as a gift (!) and still got all of them.
Altough I've been (believe it or not) a serious thrash and heavy metal headbanger in those years (ahh, the rebel years), never stop playing and buying AOR/Classic Rock stuff, along with '80s rock&pop and movie culture.
By '88, become definitely an AOR fan, trying to get anything related (but still play Metallica '83, Virgin Steele, Exodus, etc. from time to time \m/).

SOFIA said...

@Camelblue

I kinda suspected you were one of us (people who enjoy almost all kinds of music).
As for broadcasting on my own, I don't think that's a good idea for me right now (with summer coming and all). I think that all bad things have their up side so now that I have more time for myself I will try and enjoy this summer as much as I can! Thanks for the idea though! Someday maybe...

@AOROCKER

My own AOR discovery (as I confess in one of my last shows - can'r remember which one right now) was at a party when I was 9 years old when I heard Toto's Child's Anthem song. That song was an absolute revelation for me! Since then I tried, pretty much the same way Camelblue did (searching thru a friend's record store, which now is history!), to listen as much AOR as I could (although I wasn't fortunate enough to inherit the store's records! lol)! However I never stopped to listen to whatever music genre I got my ears and hands on! I love almost all kinds of music (only the best quality of course).

My second AOR revelation (as you all know or have guessed by now) was when I first heard Journey and Steve Perry's magical voice!
Come to think of it if I wanted to describe the feeling I had that moment I would say that it was like (I imagine) inventing the wheel all over again! lol.
And yes, Troy, before you say anything, I was also the one who invented the wheel the first time! :)

joecool said...

All this talk of first time AOR revelations and all- got me to thinking how I progressed through different styles of music- bubble gum pop, radio pop, aor (local radio station referred to it as album oriented rock) listening to whole albums on the air instead of the popular release. I always found a cut of each album that I liked way more than the ones released to the radio stations. When I started making money to buy my own, it was rock, metal, etc. I don't listen to any death/black metal (anymore) a lot of it scares me now but I do enjoy the razor guitars and big chunky bass and drum support. Listen to and bought all of Judas Priest/Boston/Journey/ early Toto/Styx/Foreigner/Scorpions/Kansas etc. Lots of guitar heroes in the collection now- Montrose, Gary Moore, Lukather, Satriani, I have a few side tracks (musically speaking) on occasion like Alison Krause, and used to follow a few rather obscure selections- one and out or two and out(haven't found too many here but every once in a while I am surprised) My one guilty pleasure purchase of late was Fun and Games Elephant Candy-- used to play the heck out of that one in my teens found out a bit of the back history with the CD release interesting competition between them and Three Dog Night for a song, TDN got the release first and F&Gs faded away slowly-- could have been a big break When I listen now I can tell a lot of the songs are kind of corny oh well there are still a couple that stand up to the test of time.
I enjoy following all the banter here and look forward to that next gem from my past to resurface here.
Thanks all

well for me it was the revelation & sheer genius that was Boston's debut.

Also remember the black fingertips from flicking through all the bargain bins/second-hand stores, finding unknown/obscure LPs. You could pick out anything AOR/Melodic just by the band names & at

I managed to rip this from a website.
Quality is not great but it will do just fine for you to decide whether you want to buy this or not,
at least until a better copy comes along.
"One More Time" track has a little skipping point.
I'm also sorry for the silence at the beginning of some tracks but I had no time to remove it.
Other than that the ripping process went great!
My opinion about the album: Not bad at all! It could use some more guitar act like the one in "Dangerous Game" track and a little better production.

@Camelblue:

I found one of Marlies's 'Delectrified'/'Electrified' twosome for a staggering two euros in brand new condition in a bargain bin.

In case you hadn't come across it yourself, here it is at my usual 320 kbps:

Marlies - Delectrified (2007)

It's the acoustic one (all instruments by Robby Valentine).

Hello everybody,

I'm looking for the acoustic comeback-album of Baby Animals ( Australian act featuring Suze DeMarchi and superguitarist Dave Leslie ). The album was called "Il grande silenzio ".I think was released in 2008. Very hard to find these days.
Anybody?
Greetings from Holland!

@ All :
A violent storm destroyed my internet connection (phone & tv cable as well) in my area last wednesday. After a week things are back to normality.
Seems you don't miss me at all ... :-P
That's good, this space is yours.

@ plattenpapst :
Congratulations for your Melodicrockfest 2 experience.
Thanks for filling many requests. Already got the 3 BRONZ albums but need "Getting Higher" artwork... any chance to get them via mail?
And don't forget our joint-venture.

@ Swazi / Bernd:
Welcome.
Your nick rings me some bells. Maybe from an ancient forum?

@ troynew:
Hats off my friend. THANK YOU very much for 'Marlies'. Downloading right now.

@ mary jane:
Due to my 'involuntary' internet hiatus, A. T. The Soundtracks vol.15 is almost done.
Finally found time to rip never released songs from VHS & DVD (a long time delayed job) to offer you. Expect a some nice rarities.

I've missed you Ariel and kinda felt that something was wrong but I didn't wanna make the same question I'm making most of the times and no one answers "Where is .....? Is he/she alright?" lol

@ RODAS :
Please provide some extra info about the band 'Secrets'.
Interesting song 'Dangerous' : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2onTN5Efas

I thought that this was the band whom released 'Everyone's A Spy (1983)' but this song 'Dangerous' isn't there and styles don't match.
